What Is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are prosthetics that are typically made of two parts: two dental crowns connected to each other by artificial teeth, or pontics. The dental caps are cemented to the natural abutment teeth on either side of the gap, allowing them to remain in place until it’s time for a replacement. In many cases, dental bridges can help replace one to three missing teeth in a row. With simple dental care and regular visits with Dr. Peters every six months, you can expect your results to last a decade or more!

Types of Dental Bridges

Every dental bridge is designed with each patient’s unique smile and situation in mind. While all of them are meant to help rebuild missing teeth, we offer two kinds of options that you can choose from.

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional dental bridge consists of two tooth-colored crowns that will be cemented to the nearby teeth. The pontics will then cover the top side of your gum line to blend your prosthetic with the rest of your smile. For a more secure result, this option is best for those missing one to three consecutive teeth.

Implant Bridge

Instead of using abutment teeth, implant bridges utilize dental implants to anchor your prosthetic to your jawbone. While this option requires a few months to complete due to the osseointegration process, your results can typically last several decades to even a lifetime with proper care. Additionally, our team won’t have to alter your natural teeth to complete your treatment.
